HeadshotLauren Hensel is a recent graduate of James Madison University where she studied Media Arts and Design with a concentration in Corporate Communication.  She hopes to land a career in marketing, public relations, or event planning that will utilize her writing, design, and social media skills.

Background:

  • Lauren Hensel spent this past summer interning with USO-Metropolitan Washington working under the communications manager. While there she produced various print and online media including newsletter templates, marketing publications and press releases. developed and implemented social media platforms, represented the organization at promotional events and edited internal and external communications materials for both content and style.
  • She also interned at a graphic design firm and a print shop during her first two summers of college. While working, she learned how to work through the creative production process (from design to distribution) and interact with clients.
  • Throughout her program of studies, Lauren took classes in print and web design, video and audio production, media trends, web communication practices, media law and a variety of writing courses. She produced flyers, blogs, videos, magazine covers, podcasts, commercial ideas, and an advertising campaign.  In addition, she wrote a news story for James Madison University’s student newspaper, The Breeze.
  • Lauren spent six weeks during the summer studying writing and film in Ireland. While there she attended the Galway Film Fleadh and saw a variety of independent features. She maintained a blog depicting her travels and adventures abroad and learned how to evaluate films through her writing.
  • In addition to her program of studies, Lauren also devoted 10-15 hours a week practicing and performing with the James Madison University Dukettes, the official dance team for the school. She both served as an officer and headed up the Special Events Committee. In the fall of 2008, she planned her teams fall semiformal retreat.
  • Lauren also served as the Public Relations Officer for Phi Beta Delta, an Honor Society that promotes international relations and studies abroad.
